'Rydal Water' in the Lake District
I took the Radio Amateurs Exam (RAE) in Dorchester in December 1981 aged 16. It wasn't until May 1982 that I finally received my class B license and the callsign G6HRV. Later that same year I was taught to send and receive morse code by the late George Gunnill G3AVV (ex G4DLE) who taught morse at RAF, Cranwell at the outbreak of WWII. George detailed his early exploits in an article published by the South Dorset Radio Society. I took my morse test at Portishead Radio Station GKA and received my present callsign in December 1982.
I operate mainly CW and Digital modes from HF up to 10Ghz. I like to build radio related projects and I occasionally write programs for PIC Microcontrollers. Recently I have been recording the Butterflies I see on my travels.
I am a member of the RSGB & Pontefract & District Radio Society (PDARS).
